Therapist Spotlight 4.2 - Theresa Slade, LGPC

Hear more about what it is like to work with Theresa Slade and some self care tips.

What are some challenges that your clients face?

My clients face issues of depression, anxiety and challenging life transitions. My clients are individuals who recognize they desire better, healthier coping tools, and are eager to put in the work to make changes.

Why do you think it is important for people to participate in therapy?

While a good therapist is crucial, it’s important to note that therapy is only successful if the client is willing to put in the work. Therapy is amazing, but it is hard work and requires individuals to be committed to actively participate and challenge themselves, especially when they might not feel like it. As a therapist, I am here to guide and support my clients on that journey, but I cannot make the change for them.

We all experience stress in our lives; what are some self-care activities that you use for managing general life stressors?

It’s taken me a while to be confident in this area, but I’m proud to say I’ve done the work to get there! Daily exercise is a non-negotiable for me in order to be fully present for my clients and the people in my life. I enjoy riding our Peloton and running with our dog on a nice day. When I am feeling extra stressed, I try to end my day with a cup of tea and a meditation at bedtime. When I am not working or on the weekends (and weather cooperates), we love to take our dogs for hikes or long walks, travel, and spend time with loved ones who replenish our energy.
